Inge Morath's photo artistic work on New York spans four decades. Her first visit to New York dates back to 1957, when she accompanied Henri Cartier-Bresson on a journey through America. In 1960, she worked as a set photographer during the shooting of the legendary film "The Misfits", starring Marilyn Monroe. In the decades to follow, the fascinating metropolis of New York City remained one of the focal points of Inge Morath's creative work. The 50th anniversary of the Magnum Photo Agency marked an occasion for her, between 1997 and 1999, to shoot numerous new photographs of the city.
