Peter van Agtmael
USA. Richmond, Virginia. 2020. Protesters gather at the graffiti covered base of a statue of Robert E. Lee on Richmond's Monument Avenue. 155 years after the defeat of the Confederacy, statues of Confederate leaders still dot the south. During the summer of 2020, a new reckoning with racial justice issues led to the removal of many of these monuments.
