NIGERIA. Lagos, Ikorodu. Ita - Elewa Primary Health Center. 03 December 2022. On the left, Kehinde Odususi (19), beneficiary of the Youg Mom's Clinic (YMC) program funded by UNFPA, with Chinasa Iyase, a project coordinator of the program, which provides free ante-natal care services, free baby care items, psychological support and family planning counselling for teenage mothers.
Kehinde got pregnant in 2020 after being sexually abused. The YMC provided her healthcare as well as emotional support and family planning councelling. "I got my confidence back by accessing the YMC" said Kehinde. She is now a teacher for primary school and hopes to be a psychologist to "help people understand themselves [...] We all should be one".
According to the UNFPA, fewer than 40% (percent) of young women compared with 80% (percent) of young men report that they make their own decisions about their healthcare.
