JAPAN. Tokyo. October 31st, 2022. Miyako Fukuda, owns and works at the bar “Le Matin” in Golden Gai (street) in Shinjuku.
Ms. Miyako Fukuda has been running this bar for 38 years. It opens at 19:00 every day and is busy until midnight. There are many customers from the media, activists and other political parties. The shop is lined with books published by regular customers, and politics is discussed every night. There are left-wingers and right-wingers drinking side by side in the shops. « There are no fights, everyone is drinking happily. » Ms Fukuda says.
Ms. Miyako Fukuda, was born in Ibaraki prefecture and did play-acting theatre when she was young. One day, a friend invited her to start working in Golden Gai. At first it was supposed to be for five years, but she is still doing it.
She likes this job, or rather, it's the only thing she's ever done, and she doesn't know any other world. She’s met a lot of different people and is very happy with it.
She rents a house and lives alone.She could have had the opportunity to get married, but prioritised work.

She has no plans to retire. She plans to die here. The customers of the bar are her family. Many of the people she has known for a long time have stopped coming when they got older.
Customers also help her fix the bar. They installed a AC, or delivered books to her when she had a myocardial infarction last year and became very ill.

Ms. Miyako Fukuda maintain a good relationship with the neighborhood. She helps not only customers but also other Golden Street bartenders.
In her time off, Ms. Miyako Fukuda likes films and spends her days off watching them. Her record is 23 films a month.
