Larry Towell
USA. Charleston. Tennesse. October. 2024. Current location where Fort Cass once stood. The internment camp was 12 miles long x 4 miles wide and represented the administration Center for the entire Cherokee removal operation overseen by Gen. Winfield Scott. More than half of the Cherokee were interned here before being ferried across the Tennessee River at Blyth Ferry from which they could never look back.
