Larry Towell
USA. Cartersville. Georgia. October. 2024. Etowa Indian Mounds. Native people lived at Etawah and begin building mounds around 1000 CE. At its peak several thousand people lived around the fortified town which served as a center of political, economic, and religious life in the valley. Spanish explorer Hernando De Soto arrived in 1540 marking the beginning of European colonization of the region.
