NIGERIA. Ogbia. December 18, 2024.
Onuegbu community (Bayelsa State). Itu Tonye vaccines a little girl against Malaria. Outreach for vaccination against malaria on children under 5 months. The team led by ITU TONYE , vaccinator, (white blouse) goes door to door in the city center to ask parents of children under 5 months if they have received the vaccine against malaria. The malaria vaccine is to be administered in a four-dose series starting at approximately 5 months of age (up to 11 months if delayed) to reduce the number of deaths and the burden of the disease according to WHO's 2023 recommendation. In a historic step in the fight against malaria in Nigeria, one miliion doses of R21 vaccine were delivered in a national government action made possible thanks to the combined efforts of Gavi, the Vaccine alliance, which supported the cost of the vaccines, transport and admnistration, and UNIVEF and WHO, which managed the procurement and shipment.
