JORDAN. Amman. January, 2021. Child labor among urban refugee children in Amman, Jordan, has become an increasingly pressing issue, particularly affecting Syrian refugees. Economic hardships and limited access to education compel many refugee families to send their children into the workforce to supplement household incomes. A study focusing on the urban informal sector in Amman, Irbid, and Mafraq identified economic necessity and societal attitudes that undervalue education as primary drivers of child labor. Syrian refugee children are especially vulnerable, often working long hours under hazardous conditions, which adversely affects their health and development.
