GB. WALES. Cardiff. Tenovus charity shop, Penarth. This Cardiff-based cancer charity was established by nine friends of a certain Eddie Price in 1943, who was laid up in hospital for three months after an industrial accident. Not only did they buy a radio for him, they equipped all of the other beds with sets too. This group ("10 of us") gained a reputation for helping sick patients with different needs. It later grew into a cancer charity with shops in Wales and England. Guardian Cities Project. 2008.
