JAPAN. Saga City. Researchers at the Institute of Ocean Energy, Saga University, are developing a technology where pumping cool water from the ocean depths turns ammonia gas into liquid and warm water from the surface turns it back into gas, providing the energy to turn electricity-producing turbines. Getting the mixture of water and gases right is vital to the efficiency of the system. 2004.
