Peter Marlow
GB. Scotland. The Orkney Islands. The UNESCO World Heritage site, The Neolithic Heart of The Orkneys.
Maeshowe Chambered cairn, Stenness. This large and spectacular Neolithic tomb dates from about 2750 BC, and has the largest collection of Viking runes anywhere. Left by returning 12th century Crusaders the inscriptions include many symbols and ledgends. The chamber is illuminated by the setting sun over several weeks in Midwinter.
