GB. Scotland. The Orkney Islands. The UNESCO World Heritage site, The Neolithic Heart of The Orkneys. Skara Brae Neolithic village, Bay of Skaill. The best preserved prehistoric village in Northern Europe consists of a cluster of houses and workshop which were occupied from about 3100 to 2600 BC. This remarkable monument was preserved under an inundation of sand until they were revealed by a severe storm in 1850.
