Ian Berry
SOUTH AFRICA. Mpumalanga province, near Balfour. Owner of a security firm Ted Gillespie instructs his Mozambican guards at dusk before dropping them off at white owned farms for protection. Gillespie uses Mozambican Africans because they can't speak the local African language and are less likely to be corrupted by the local Africans. Gillespie, a third generation South African of Scottish extraction, has decided that there is no future for him in South Africa and is trying to decide whether to join his daughter in Canada or his eldest son in Australia, where his younger son has also applied to go. 2004
