Stuart Franklin
USA. Louisiana. 2010. Shrimp fishermen (left) Raleigh Lasseigne (65), his grandson Blake Lasseigne (24) - right. All three have trawled here for generations. Although Blake gave up 4 years ago to become a crane driver, after he lost his boat in Katrina. Both Paul and Blake lost their homes during Katrina, but they benefitted during most of the recession due to federal compensation funding. Paul works these lays laying oil boom for BP. Shrimp fishermen work only at night, but the oil boom work happens during the day. At one point he helped the navy. They didn't understand the strength of the currents. Paul has been working for 43 days straight. He daren't take a day off in case he's laid off. Paul's brother runs another boat for BP but he got sick from oil dispersant land right over his boat - high blood pressure, nausea etc. He's still not back at work. Both had to sign contracts with BP that they wouldn't speak with the press. Blake's number is 1-985 677 0759.
