VIETNAM. Quang Tri province. Hai Lang district. The central coastal province of Quang Tri is one of the most vulnerable to flooding in the whole of Vietnam, and Hai Lang district is the most vulnerable within the province. Climate change will bring an increased risk of disaster to Vietnam. Oxfam works in Hai Lang district, helping to train villagers to prepare for floods and storms, and how to adapt to changes.
Nguyen Quang Trai (38) and his wife Tran Thi Minh (35) with their son Nguyen Quang Nha (9), sitting on bags of rice on their raised platform where they store possessions and live during floods, Hai Hoa commune.
Trai: "I only hear about changes in weather from the television. My education is low, so how would I know? My life is miserable, very hard. We just cultivate rice, but it's not enough to feed the family. A lot of people are unemployed here.
"I have lost two crops consecutively, so I have had to borrow money from the bank and a wealthier family, so I can send my children to school. I feel very sad having to borrow money."
