G.B. ENGLAND. Army. The lack of Black British Officers is frequently remarked on by the US Army, which thanks to positive discrimination has scores of black generals, and where 10% of the officers are black. What cannot be hidden at grand occasions like the Trooping of the Colour, is the show of white racial purity. It has been kept at the cost of one soldiers dignity. Sonny Freeman gave the army he loved 22years service. Promoted to Sergeant at 21, he was forced to switch regiments and ended up the only blackman in the Blues and Royals, Part of the Household Cavalry. Behind him is an oil painting of him in full dress uniform with his riding crop standing in front of the Horse Guards Parade. 1987
