PAKISTAN Peshawar. September 2001. The International Media. Afghan refugees. After twenty years of war in Afghanistan, Pakistan has had to cope with an estimated two and a half million refugees over this period. The present war has pushed many more into Peshawar, who have come to stay with relatives or make rudimentary homes dotted around the city. This family have been in Peshawar for one week, and made their way from Kabul The mother complained that she was beaten with sticks by the Taliban, for not wearing gloves.
