CHINA. Xinjiang. 2013. Photographer Carolyn Drake made prints of her own photographs and then asked her Uyghur subjects to draw their own pictures on top of them. In some cases she also interviewed her subject: 'The patterns are taught by teachers, who were also taught by teachers' says a carpet weaver in Hotan of his additions to a picture of an industrial site in the desert. He has drawn some of the traditional images found on carpets: a partridge, an eyebrow pattern, a leaf pattern, a Dewezin pattern and curvy pattern on the border.
