CHINA. Buzak. 2013. A winter landscape. Photographer Carolyn Drake hired some of the many women seen on the streets around Xinjiang embroidering flowers and birds and koranic phrases onto fabric to embelish some prints she made of her photographs of the region. In some cases she interviewed her subjects: 'When we embroider, our minds stay clear', says a farmer's daughter who has added a cloud to the picture.
