Sandbags remain in place at a fighting position used by the Islamic State inside a school in the Kurdish-held town of Kobane.
In January 2015, the YPG backed by coalition airstrikes succeeded in expelling the Islamic State (IS) from the town. Seventy percent of the city was destroyed by airstrikes and fighting. The YPG now controls the town, which has mostly been reduced to rubble.
