CHINA. Kashgar. 2009. Many houses in the Old Town have pigeon lofts on the roof. Owners call the birds home at dusk. It is thought that this part of the Old Town will be gone within five years, but nobody knows for sure. China is in the process of dramatically transforming the landscape of Xinjiang, tearing down the Uighur old town of Kashgar to build a new Chinese city.
