USA. San Jose, CA. 2018. Over 4,000 homeless people in san jose. Yet instead of building housing, the city recently decided to sell public land for tech development, inviting Google to build a campus for 20,000 new employees. Kelly Blake lives in a new community called Hope Village that was recently established without city approval on city owned land. Knowing it would take years to get through the city bureaucracy, a pair of local philanthropists decided to claim the land before it was too late. The city is now giving the community a 6 month test to see how it goes. Residents are accepted by community vote and the village is funded purely by donations.
