Hiroji Kubota
China. Baotou, Nei Mongol. 1984. From about 7:30 a.m., Gangtie Rd. In Baotou is filled with people on bicycles commuting to work at the Baotou Steel Mills. The sixty thousand workers here produce 1.5 million tons of steel a year. As an essential product for Chinas modernization, steel is produced not only here in Baotou, a town on the Huang He River (Yellow River), but also at large-scale steel mills in Shanghai, Wuhan, Beijing, and Anshan.
