USA. Canyon de Chelly, Arizona. 2000. The Canyon de Chelly, in northeastern Arizona, was once the stronghold of the Navajo Nation. Kit Carson surrounded the people there and starved most into submission by destroying much of their livestock, homes, and crops. The canyon has been occupied by Indians for 2000 years.
