GUATEMALA. Alta Verapaz. 1987. A young child conscripted into a local civil patrol unit in a model village. During the 1980s the Guatemalan government forced a civil patrol paramilitary onto indian villages. Resident civilians were forcibly conscripted and were under the authority of the local military commander. Many extreme human rights abuses occurred in these years, often executed by the civil patrol.
