MYANMAR (Burma). Yangon (Rangoon) 1979. To this day, there are no bridges across the Yangon (Ragoon) River. There is a ferry for crossing from the downtown part of the city to the residential area on the river's opposite shore, but the type of small boat seen in this photo is convenient and popular among many of the citizens of Yangon (Rangoon). The number of boats with motors is increasing rapidly, but it seems safer to use oars as the boat approaches the opposite shore. The sea is not far away and tides in the river are strong, calling on all of a boatsman's skills.
