RWANDA. Murambi. December 2005. Murambi Genocide Memorial. In the spring of 1994, 50,000 Tutsis had taken refuge in a school where they were found and massacred by Hutu extremists. In this site, 850 bodies have been exhumed and displayed on tables of wooden slats. One building houses a series of clotheslines. The remains of the victims have been left as a tribute to the 800,000 Tutsis massacred in the largest organized killing of the decade.
