NICARAGUA. SIGN LANGUAGE.
NICARAGUA. MANAGUA. 1999. Teaching assistant Anselmo using Nicaraguan Sign Language at the Esquelitas de Bluefields. The blackboard reads "Always saying I'm strong" in sign language.
Nicaraguan Sign Language arose in the early 1970s when hundreds of previously isolated deaf individuals were brought together in schools for the first time as the result of a literacy training educational reform movement.
