USA. Antlers, Oklahoma. 2014. Stickball practice in Antlers. Stickball is a predecessor of modern Lacrosse. It is played using sticks which are made from hickory. A small ball, traditionally made of deer hide, is tossed into the air. Players use a pair of the sticks, and female players use their bare hands.
The game was often played to settle disputes, but now is used to preserve cultural heritage. Points are scored by striking a pole stuck into the ground. The adult version is full contact but the children play a more restrained game.
