Elliott Erwitt
SCOTLAND. 2011. Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, Glasgow. Sir Roger the Asian elephant arrived in Glasgow in the 1890s as part of a travelling menagerie. Eventually transferred to the Scottish Zoo, Sir Roger developed a hormonal condition that can cause male elephants to become unusually aggressive. When he became too unruly to care for, the zoo owner contacted the museum. After local soldiers were brought in to help put him down, and following the taxidermist's work, Sir Roger was delivered to his current and final home in 1901.
