Elliott Erwitt
SCOTLAND. 2012. A87 looking east towards Glamaig, Isle of Skye, Inner Hebrides. Glamaig is the northernmost of the Red Hills of Skye, and one of the island’s only two Corbetts (peaks 2,500-3,000ft high, with at least 500ft of descent; so named after John Rooke Corbett, the climber who identified them). In 1899, a Gurkha named Harkabir Tharpa famously scaled the mountain in 37 minutes, making the whole round trip — starting and finishing in the bar of the nearby Sligachan Inn — in 55 minutes. Reports say that he was barefoot the whole way and barely out of breath upon completion.
