BANGLADESH. Keraniganj, Dhaka District. 2015. Child labor. Keranigani, on the Buriganga River at the south end of Dhaka, is one of the largest ports in the world. This section houses hundreds of small local garment factories where laborers are paid by piece. Most work a minimum of twelve hour days for six days a week. Children as young as 10 years old work for free under two year "training" contracts. Most clothing in these small sweatshops are produced for regional distribution. With fabric often piled to the ceiling and with windows of the multi-story buildings barred, they remain an uninspected fire hazard.
