CANADA. Nunavut. Qikiqtarjuaq. 2004. Beneath a Southern American confederacy flag, two boys stand in a bedroom smoking and watching life go by in the frozen outside. The youth of Qikiqtarjuaq are far removed from the more immediate lifestyle of their grandparents, who were hunters and fishermen. Today many live off the Canadian welfare system, and although influenced by the popular culture of the south, they are equally isolated from the modern Canadian life, which from here seems like a different and distant world.
