USA. South Dakota. 2000. It is better to lose a war, or even a battle, to the United States than to win one. The victory of the Oglala under Crazy Horse, the Hunkpapas under Sitting Bull, and the Northern Cheyenne over the 7th Cavalry would leave those tribes to be hunted and punished from that day on. Some would argue that it is true even to this day. Soon after the battle, Sitting Bull crossed in Canada to receive protection from Queen Victoria. A year later, Crazy Horse brought his group of 800-1000 men, women, and children into Fort Robinson, now in northern Nebraska. He was not given the reservation that he was promised, and soon he was murdered as he resisted being pushed into a foul-smelling stockade on the edge of the fort's parade grounds. Many of his people settled under Chief Big Road in Manderson, South Dakota on the Pine Ridge Reservation, where they live to this day.
