Larry Towell
USA. Washington DC. September 27, 2002. During anti-globalization protests, demonstrators are arrested in front of the Citibank building, K Street and Vermont Avenue. Local and federal police who quickly outnumbered and overwhelmed the protesters arrested 649 persons. They were charged with "failure to obey" in spite of the fact no warning was given and they were not allowed to disperse. Mass arrest of corralled protesters is underway. Several journalists were also arrested along with protesters.
