KENYA. Burnt Forest. 2008. In Burnt Forest, one of the worst hit areas near Eldoret in Western Kenya, locals sift through the charred remains of their houses that were burned down. Whole villages were burned down in the unrest between Kalenjins, who dominate the Rift Valley, and Kikuyus, the tribe of Mwai Kibakim, the incumbent president. After the contested elections, the area around Eldoret saw widespread killings and violence.
