THAILAND. Bangkok. 1998. Thailand boasts the world's highest level of annual economic growth. During the Vietnam War, partly for strategic purposes, the United States won the cooperation of the Thai government in building a splendid domestic network of highways. The demand for motorcycles and other motor vehicles in Thailand has grown explosively. The Thai Honda plant built in 1965 produces 940,000 motorcycles a year, the largest production for a single plant anywhere in the world. Some 4,300 employees work here. Eighty-five percent of the plant's production of motorcycles is sold domestically. The rest is exported to Vietnam, China, Brazil and elsewhere.
