CHINA. Xi'an, Shaanxi. 1985. In 1974, a farmer was digging a well in an area not far from the tomb of Emperor Qin Shihuang and accidentally uncovered what is now called the Army of Terracotta Warriors, over 7,500 life-size statues of warriors and horses placed here some 2,200 years ago. The army is thought to have been built to protect the spirit of the Emperor.
