Peter van Agtmael
USA. Fort Jackson, South Carolina. 2011.
Soldiers sign off after being exposed to CS, a largely nonlethal gas usually used for riot control. They were
enclosed in a small building full of gas and told to remove their masks. Moments later they burst out
gasping and choking. Snot poured out their noses and a few collapsed. The drill sergeants were on them
immediately, barking at them to get up and keep moving. Stumbling to their feet, they flapped their arms to
dissipate the gas and ran weaving down the hill.
