Rome: view from the Altare della Patria.
The monument, also known as the Vittoriale, was built at the beginning of the 20th century to celebrate the unification of Italy in 1861 and the first king of Italy, Vittorio Emanuele II. The monument was inaugurated during the Universal Exposition which took place in Rome in 1911.
