UK. Sculpture Exposed. (Carving and Controversy). The Cherhill White Horse of Wiltshire - from the tail showing the distant head and eye - Cut in 1780 and constructed by Dr Alsop who directed the operation from the London road using a loud hailer. The Horse is 129ft long and 142ft high. The eye was made of bottle bottoms which glinted in the sun. They were vandalised in the 19th century.
