Robert Capa / International Center of Photography
Matisse spends most of his time in his bed, having suffered a severe operation and now has arthritis and suffers with great pain. His mahogany table is covered with art books with his latest drawings.Next to him is his radio, it is here that he receives his few intimates and friends. His body is nearly immobile, but his finely chiselled head is in constant movement, and so is his mind.
