IRAQ. Kurds. 1974. Peshmergas commandoes (volunteers) during a meeting in a Kurdish village. Between 1961 and 1970 the Democratic Party of the Irakian Kurds (PDK) under the leadership of General Mollal Mustapha BARZANI waged a war against Iraq to affirm a Kurdish autonomy. A peace treaty was signed in 1970, but the autonomy was not granted to Kurdistan and another revolution started in March 1974 under the same leadership of General Mollal Mustapha BARZANI.
