Abbas
MALI. Village of Bankass. 1996. A woman of the Wahabiya muslim sect, veiled in black, on her way from the local market passes a mosque and a horse. The Wahabiya is a pietist sect which adheres to a strict and obscurantist code of Islam on the model of Arabia where the alliance of a tribal leader Ibn Saud with the fanatic cleric Ibn Wahab made modern Saudi Arabia. In Mali, Wahabism is spread by pilgrims, merchants and workers returning from Saudi Arabia.
