SOUTH AFRICA. Standerton. General Jan SMUTS (SA) arrives at political rally in a rural area 100 miles from Johannesburg. The South African election campaign of 1948 was the first presidential election to be fought on racial lines, eventually won by Malan's Nationalist Party. Standerton was the constituency of the leader of the United Party. 1948.
