JAPAN. Wakayama Project. Project for the Local Government Prefecture of Wakayama, a rural area of Western Japan. Three Magnum photographers, Peter Marlow, Chris-Steele Perkins, Elliot Erwitt, were commissioned to produce a set of work to be used in a publication and exhibition in Tokyo, Osaka, designed to promote this area of Japan. Each photographer spent three weeks in the area, concentrating on the natural aspects of the region and with a particular focus on the "Kumano Trail", the ancient road for pilgrims visiting holy Shinto sites in the area. 1998.
