SOUTH AFRICA. Ulundi. According to an old Zulu custom, kings chose their wives at an annual reed-giving ceremony attended by all the unmarried women. Buthelezi revived this custom as part of a deliberate attempt to restore a sense of Zulu identity. 1994.
