LIBYA. South of the Bay of Sirte. Starving villagers walk to the centre where the British aauthorities ration 4 kilos of grain per person. The local sheikh sits by the scales to ensure fair distribution.
After the worst draught for many years, nomadic Arabs faced 6 hot months with no pasture for their stock, no grain to feed them and wells running dry. Those who could moved their herds across 500 miles of desert to more fertile regions of the Bay of Sirte. 1947.
