USA. New York City. United Nations. 2000. Amadou Diallo, a 22-year-old street peddler from Guinea, died February 4 1999 after alledgedly being shot in the vestibule of his Bronx apartment building by four police officers. In March, the officers were each indicted on two counts of second-degree murder as a result of the February shooting. The case was acquitted and all four officers were not charged. On Sunday February 27th, 25,000 men and women all marched towards the U.N plaza protesting against the verdict. The father of Diallo joined the Rev. Al Sharpton at the rally, organized by the Center For Constitutional rights. The marchers gathered on he Mall-many hoisting signs with pictures of relatives killed by police-responded with cries of "Amadou!Amadou!".
