FRA.NORMANDY.ST MERE EGLISE.In June of 1944, parachutists were landing all around St Mere Eglise, where a fire was raging. The American 82nd and 101st Divisions to the northwest and southeast of the village, were widely dispersed by bad weather. Some parachutists landed in the 'dropping zone', but many went far off course, and were downed in the fields that Field Marshal Rommel had ordered to be artificially flooded. Finally the Church was taken at 00.30 hrs.
